Re: Awfully quiet forum!!Hope everyone..and every Frances is well

Let me first state that I have loved my Frances and think it is a perfect little sailboat. Emphasis on the word little. At the risk of being pilloried for heresy, given your stated cruising plans, I question your choice of the Frances II. As they say, you can do everything to a boat except make it b...

Victoria Frances for sale in Connecticut

This is a heads up. I will soon be putting my 1980, owner finished Victoria 26 up for sale. I have found that at 71, single-handed sailing is more work that it is worth. I will soon place the 2017 survey with notes on upgrades I have made here on the site. The boat has one Atlantic crossing under he...

Re: 2 questions: mainsail and weather helm

I just noticed your question. The fourth set of shrouds act as running backstays for the inner forestay when the boat is sailed as a cutter. If sailed as a sloop, they are vestigial.

I think this is your boat

It would be less confusing if you just listed it as a Victoria Frances. Morris Victoria is a contradiction in terms. BTW, boat looks nice

Re: 26' Morris Frances

"Rachael" is again for sale on YachtWorld , but something must have happened in the last decade. She looks like someone tore her apart and forgot to put her back together. It's sad when you look at the pictures of how nice she looked. I wonder what happened.

Re: Head below waterline?

Joe,
he is right. On any small boat, an atwartship head (or sink) is likely to go below the waterline. Only one facing fore and aft will not. Even then, I always close the sea cocks when under way.

Re: Head below waterline?

Joe,
Where is your head situated?
Amidship fore the mast?
Athwartship at the mast
Athwartship at the companionway?

Of those three possibilities, i would be confident only with the amidship head

Re: 2 questions: mainsail and weather helm

Good luck with your purchase. It would help to know which version of the Frances you are referring to and that would help with our answers. For example, Last year I bought a British built flush deck version and discovered that I did not have full hoist of the main which also led to a low swinging bo...

Re: Boom clearance

Mark,
thanks,
Can you also measure the distance from the deck to the gooseneck?

I am 5/11 and have to keep the topping lift hard to raise the boom enough for safety.
