Boom clearance

Post by dgibbons »

Hi everybody,
As the newest owner or a flush deck Frances (Malish), I have a question; do you have to duck while sitting in the cockpit for the boom to pass?

I am 5'11" (standing) and the boom is a definite lethal weapon.

Is it just how I rigged my boat or basic to the design?

thanks

I am 5'10" and have more than adequate clearance when seated. My boat is a trunk cabin model and has a taller than standard mast. I can
measure the distance to bottom of boom from top of seat if you are interested. You may consider having the leach cut higher so that the boom sets a bit higher towards end of boom.

Best to you

Mark,
thanks,
Can you also measure the distance from the deck to the gooseneck?

I am 5/11 and have to keep the topping lift hard to raise the boom enough for safety.

Hello Dennis,

The measurement from the deck at base of the mast to the goose neck is 39". Hope this helps.

It's not you, it's the design. I'm having the same problem.
